A short month and one with weather ups and downs. There were some beautiful days for walks outside. And I am sure that the people who plow driveways were very happy for all the snow we had. The temperatures even cooperated towards the end of the month and the tapping of the maple trees and the boiling process to make syrup have begun.
Things for the Lions Club have had some similar ups and downs in member health issues but many are getting vaccinated and hope that we as a Club will be able to get back to our service activities.
Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
A few of the students to whom we gave scholarships in 2020 have sent us videos and described their lives as college students during a pandemic. And the new round of scholarship applications for the class of 2021 will soon begin.
We are still collecting pill bottles and eye glasses (please drop the later off at the blue box in from of the Moultonborough Function Hall, formerly the Moultonborough Lions Club. Once the weather improves, we will provide a plastic box for pill bottles there as well.

Our club owns and maintains a large hall in Northbrook which is used for many community activities and events as well as private functions and gatherings.

Our Past Year:
The past 12 months have been an exciting time for the Lions Club of Land O’Lakes. In addition to supporting and serving the community with events and financial assistance that we provide each year, during the summer and fall of 2018 we completed a number of renovations and improvements to our Lions hall, including a new roof, new exterior doors and windows, new flooring inside the hall, new interlock bricks outside the entrance vestibule, and an outdoor rest area with a picnic table, bench and flower boxes. Our hall is used to host a variety of events that serve the local community including Bingo, Euchre, darts, dances, children’s programs and community lunches and dinners, and these much-needed renovations will benefit many users of our hall over the coming years. The renovations were funded through generous grants that we received from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the Township of North Frontenac and the Community Foundation for Lennox and Addington. To show our appreciation to the Trillium Foundation, we hosted a special recognition event in September 2018 which was attended by Hastings-Lennox & Addington MPP Daryl Kramp.
This past summer we celebrated our 50th Anniversary as a Chartered Lions Club by hosting ’The Best Party North of 7’ on August 17. We had planned to have an outdoor barbecue with live music and speeches on a stage that we had set up outside our hall, but on the morning of our event the weather turned gloomy and we made a last-minute decision to move everything inside. We had planned for 100 guests but 120 showed up, which made finding a place for everyone to sit a bit of a challenge! Despite the wet weather we had a wonderful event. Special thanks to our guest speaker IPDG Frank Hewitt who (as always) made everyone feel welcome and happy to be part of the celebration.Lions Club Bingo Hall Belleville
Some of the other events that have kept us busy this summer include our annual four-day Toll Road fundraiser at the end of June, our annual Fish Fry on July 26, our summer yard sale on August 10, our annual Golf Tournament on August 24, and helping out with the Haunted Forest Walk at Sherwood Park Campground on August 31. Coming up this fall we have our Christmas Extravaganza, Hallowe’en Trunk-or-Treat (Flinton) and the Santa Claus Parade (Northbrook).Lions Hall Facebook
